It was a case of history repeating itself in France tonight, as the women’s discus competition produced the same podium at the MEETING de PARIS as at the Olympic Games in Rio. Two-time Olympic champion and Diamond League pace-setter Sandra Perkovic again proved too strong for her rivals by recording a throw of 67.62m, which she achieved on her sixth and final attempt. The imperious Croatian defeated France’s Mélina Robert-Michon, who received a standing ovation at the Stade de France, and who finished second with an effort of 64.36m, also achieved on her final attempt. Cuba’s Denia Caballero only managed one valid throw, which measured 61.98m, but that was still enough for a third-place slot. The other competing French athlete, Pauline Pousse, finished eighth (56.65m).
