The MEETING AREVA could not have got off to a better start for France, with Benjamin Compaore taking victory in the men’s triple jump. The 26-year-old landed a jump of 17.12m on his third attempt, the eighth-best in the world this year, to win by a single centimetre from the USA’s Olympic champion Christian Taylor (17.11m) and Cuba’s Alexis Copello (17.04m). With his opening jump of 16.91m, Compaore also beat the qualifying standard for the European Championships in Zurich next month. The other Frenchman in the field, Yoann Rapinier, came ninth with a jump of 16.06m, while Diamond Race leader Will Claye finished seventh with a leap of 16.79m. The American nevertheless remains out front in the standings.
