Sam Kendricks, Armand Duplantis and Renaud Lavillenie: the favourites for the pole vault competition at the MEETING de PARIS brought their A game to Charléty on Saturday. The three men slugged it out for victory and ultimately it was Sam Kendricks who had the final say, pulling off a jump of 5.96m. It’s the second time in a row that he has won the MEETING de PARIS.
The Swedish prodigy Armand Duplantis (just 18 years of age) finished 2nd, with a jump of 5.90m, Renaud Lavillenie finishing 3rd (5.84m). The Frenchman has also won the Parisian meeting seven times, but he will have to wait until next year at least before he can attempt to take his tally to eight. For his part, the Brazilian Olympic champion Thiago Braz couldn’t better 5.45m.
