She was the outright favourite and didn’t disappoint. The Croatian Sandra Perkovic victoriously launched the MEETING de PARIS 2018 on Saturday evening at Charléty, by winning the women’s discus throwing competition with a throw of 68.60m, securing a new meeting record in the process. She beat Cubans Yaimé Pérez (2nd, 66.55m) and Denia Caballero (3rd, 63.13m). The Brazilian Andressa De Morais (62.93m) missed out at the foot of the podium.
After failing her first attempt (47.51m), Sandra Perkovic took the lead in the competition on her second throw (68.60m), a performance that could not be bettered either by her or the rest of the competition. The double world (2013, 2017) and Olympic champion (2012, 2016) now boasts three successes at the MEETING de PARIS, following on from her victories in 2014 and 2016.
