The eighth leg in the Wanda Diamond League calendar - and the fourth European event - the rendez-vous organised in the French capital will take place five days after the Stockholm meeting. The French athletes will naturally be keen to excel in front of a home crowd to rediscover a little of the Olympic fervour that swept the nation and the world back in August 2024, and the event will lead nicely onto the European Athletics Team Championships in Madrid one week later.
On the programme will be France’s flagship events, including the 100 m hurdles and 110 m hurdles, which will provide the perfect platform for Olympic silver medallist Cyréna Samba-Mayela and the winner of the Wanda Diamond League Sasha Zhoya to perform at their best. In the men’s competition, the Charléty crowd will be very excited about the 800 m, a distance that is taking Metropolitan France by storm thanks to a series of stellar national performances spearheaded by Gabriel Tual, as well as the 400 m hurdles, which has seen Clément Ducos explode out of the starting blocks at the highest level. Meantime, the women’s competition will feature the 3,000 m steeplechase, with the home team enjoying great success in this event as European record holder Alice Finot has come very close to securing a first Olympic medal.
The event is also sure to give international stars their due of course. The 2024 vintage was punctuated by the fantastic world records posted by Ukrainian Yaroslava Mahuchikh in the high jump (2.10 m) and Kenyan Faith Kipyegon in the 1,500 m (3’49’’04). Both events will form part of the programme again on 20 June 2025, along with the women’s pole vault, a discipline that never fails to be spectacular and suspenseful, with the added bonus of a new wave of French talent.
