What domination! Caster Semenya sailed through the women’s 800m at the MEETING de PARIS, despite some very stiff opposition on Saturday at the Charléty Stadium. The double Olympic champion ran the best time of her career so far in 1’54"25. She took the win ahead of Burundi athlete Francine Niyonsaba (2nd, 1’55"86) and American Ajee Wilson (1’57"11).
There was also satisfaction for the two French athletes competing in the race: Renelle Lamote, 8th in 1’59"25 and Claudia Saunders, 11th in 2’00"47. They both achieved the minimum requirement for the European Championships in Berlin (7-12 August 2018). "The start of my season wasn’t fantastic. I didn’t expect this, Lamote stated at the end of her race. Thank you to the public, because I could hear the encouragement everywhere!"
