Emulating his fellow countryman Kiprop in the 800m earlier this evening, Kenya’s Edwin Cheruiyot Soi ran a world best for the year in the men’s 5000m, stopping the clock in a time of 12:59.82. Taking second place behind him was Diamond Race frontrunner Yenew Alamirew of Ethiopia, who came home in 13:00.21, his best of the year. Paul Kipngetich Tanui of Kenya was third, setting a new PB of 13:00.53, while Bob Tahri, the only French runner in the field, dropped out.
