Claye sets the competition alight

The two Americans, Will Claye and Christian Taylor, have been embroiled in a ferocious yet sublime battle in the triple jump competition at the IAAF Diamond League meeting in Paris. The former ultimately took the win with 18.06m.

The American fifteen minutes really lived up to expectations in Paris. Christian Taylor had to respond to Will Claye, the top performer this season (18.14m). Both of them put on a show and masterfully matched one another’s performances. Will Claye had the upper hand up to the fourth attempt, but Taylor had no intention of letting up and managed to snatch back the lead thanks to a jump of 17.82m on the fifth attempt, his best of the night this Saturday. That is until the biggest commotion of the evening, created by the man who wears his cap the wrong way round: 18.06m, a new meeting record. With one month until the world championships, a duel like this makes you ache to be in Doha. Particularly in light of the fact that the Parisian podium is 100% American since Omar Craddock landed a jump of 17.28m. There was also a fine performance for the French contingent with 17.05m awarded to Benjamin Compaoré, earning him fifth place.
