Mayer puts on a show
Three events, three victories and two personal bests: Kévin Mayer utterly dominated this competition. In the shot put, he’d already nailed a new personal best with 17.08m and he exploded with joy in front of the crowd packed into the Charléty Stadium. In the long jump, he landed 7.50m, just five centimetres shy of his season’s best. Then he rounded off his night in style with the 110m hurdles, securing a new personal best in 13’’55. He’d said at the press conference that he didn’t want to predict how he would perform, rather he was intent on enjoying himself thanks to having a very good mindset. He demonstrated that on the track throughout the night. With a month to go to the Worlds in Doha, the world champion is brimming with confidence. Dutch athlete Peter Braun (2,629 points) and German Kai Kazmirek (2,621 points) complete the podium.
