One jump enough for Serbia’s Spanovic
Bronze medallist in the women’s long jump at the Rio Games, Serbian athlete Ivana Spanovic pulled off a solid win at the MEETING de PARIS on Saturday. The 26-year-old, who is the current Diamond League leader, produced an invalid jump on her first attempt, before leaping 6.90m on her second. She then withdrew from the competition, but Great Britain’s Lorraine Ugen (6.80m) and Estonia’s Ksenija Balta (6.75m), who eventually finished second and third, were subsequently unable to surpass that second attempt, which proved sufficient for victory. Olympic champion Tianna Bartoletta (USA) did not have the greatest of nights, finishing seventh with a jump of 6.28m. France’s Eloyse Lesueur, who had failed to attain the qualifying benchmark for Rio 2016, finished in sixth place with a jump of 6.38m.
