Schwanitz remains at the summit

Leader of the Diamond League ranking, German Christina Schwanitz has won the shot put competition at the MEETING AREVA thanks to a throw of 20.31m.

Christina Schwanitz is the best shot put thrower of the season. The 29-year old German, right out in front of the Diamond League ranking, has won the MEETING AREVA this Saturday, with a throw of 20.31m on her final attempt. Chinese athlete Lijiao Gong (19.75m) and American Michelle Carter (19.37m) complete the podium, whilst the thrower from Trinité-et-Tobago Cleopatra Borel finishes fourth, thanks to her season’s best (19.07m). The double Olympic champion from New Zealand, Valérie Adams, returning to competition mode after a ten-month stoppage following an operation to her elbow and shoulder, finished fifth, with a throw of 18.79m. It’s her first defeat in 56 competitions! The French thrower Jessica Cérival couldn’t better 16.70m and finishes tenth.
