To date, just 32 men have pulled off the challenge since Sergey Bubka did so for the first time in Paris, in July 1985. No fewer than eight of them will perform at the Charléty Stadium on Sunday 28 June, and it won’t be a commemoration or a gathering together of veterans.

Mondo Duplantis confirmed his participation in the Meeting de Paris quite some time ago and this has inspired a mouthwatering list of candidates keen to outdo the double Olympic champion. Among them are the second-best pole vaulter of all time and Olympic and world number two, Greek athlete Emmanouil Karalis (6.17 m) and Australian Kurtis Marschall, who recently triumphed in Stockholm (Sweden) and Oslo (Norway) in the latest two legs of the Diamond League.

The American contingent will also cut a fine figure with double world champion Sam Kendricks, the US record holder KC Lightfoot (6.07 m), this winter’s revelation Zachery Bradford, who won the Meeting de Paris Indoor during a stunning performance in January 2026, and Christopher Nilsen. It is clear that the Meeting record, teetering at ‘just’ 6.01 m since Duplantis performed in 2021, is very likely to get a reset at the end of June.

Naturally, the line-up would not be complete without the indestructible Renaud Lavillenie, who is still going strong at nearly 40 years of age and boasts eighteen competitions posting 6 m or higher during his career, plus compatriots Thibaut Collet and Baptiste Thiery, who have been regularly closing on 6 m for several seasons now. This will be a golden opportunity to make their dream come true on home turf.

Marie-Julie Bonnin has her work cut out

Like last year, world indoor champion 2025 Marie-Julie Bonnin will enjoy seeing what she’s made of in a French stadium full to bursting at Charléty. Indeed, the athlete from Bordeaux, now based in Clermont-Ferrand in central France, will really have to dig deep if she wants to snatch victory in the capital. Two of her rivals have posted jumps in excess of 4.90 m: New Zealander Eliza McCartney has a personal best of 4.94 m and Australian Nina Kennedy, Olympic champion in Paris in 2024, ranks among the top 10 in the world of all time.

Also stepping up to the plate in Paris will be five more specialists with jumps of over 4.80 m to their credit: Swiss pole vaulter Angelica Moser, who has secured a spot on the podium at the last two editions of the World Indoor Championships, Finnish athlete Wilma Heltelä (née Murto), Slovenian Tina Sutej, bronze medallist at last summer’s Tokyo Worlds, New Zealander Imogen Ayris and Czech Amálie Svábíkoví, both the latter securing bronze at this winter’s World Indoor Championships in Torun (Poland). The Meeting record of 4.91 m, which was set nearly 20 years ago in 2007 by Yelena Isinbayeva, may also be under threat.

In their quest for new heights and records, Marie-Julie Bonnin and her teammate Bérénice Petit will use the competitive spirit to push the limits and thrill the raucous crowd at Charléty. Eager to reach new record heights, Marie-Julie Bonnin and teammate Bérénice Petit will be hoping they can feed off the buzz of competition and stir up the home crowd to fever pitch at Charléty. The atmosphere is sure to be electric from 5 p.m.

[36
["post-2717","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-paris-en
["GET
