It will be like coming home, almost. Indeed, Jimmy Gressier is always quick to point out that he’s originally from Boulogne-sur-Mer on France’s north coast but feels very happy in the capital. “I love Paris and the Charléty Stadium because each time I’ve run there, I’ve posted a good result and taken away some wonderful memories. The Parisian crowd always delivers,” explains the reigning world champion in the 10,000 m. On 28 June, he’ll be lining up for the 5,000 m in the City of Light’s 13th district.
This will be Gressier’s third appearance in Charléty. In 2022, he finished in fourth place in a stifling heat. Last year was a repeat performance, though he improved on his own national record with a time of 12’51’’59, a fitting prelude to a glorious summer season, which saw him take victory in the Diamond League in Zurich and then the Worlds in Tokyo.
After processing his triumph in Japan (where he also secured a bronze medal in the 5,000 m), Jimmy Gressier is back this spring in dazzling form, as evidenced by his European 5 km road record, set in Lille on 4 April in 12’’51. He’ll be heading to Paris in late June with a clear aim: to run very, very fast, with his sights on outperforming his rivals and taking victory. The standout French track athlete of 2025 will be able to count on the full support of his fans as he goes for gold on what promises to be another crazy night, in a race where he will face off against the American Grant Fisher, who finished third in the 5,000m and 10,000m events at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
